ST.THOMAS’ CHURCH, FOXLEY

Foxley’s Carol Service on December 19th was very well attended and we enjoyed hearing the readings of the “wondrous story” and singing the familiar words, followed by mulled wine and mince pies. As ever, the decorations and candlelight brought the old church to life and encouraged us to persist in our efforts to renovate it and sustain the Christian tradition in our village. Indeed, by the summer the electrical re-wiring and the repairs to the woodwork should have been completed.
The midnight Holy Communion Service and that on St.Stephen’s (or Boxing Day) also attracted good congregations. The collections from the three services were augmented by the PCC to the extent that £300 was sent to each of – Hope & Homes for Children and The Children’s Society.

Diana Harvey PCC Secretary

THE CHILDREN’S SOCIETY COFFEE MORNING held late last year at Foxley Lodge raised £252 and this has been sent off to H.Q. together with £716 from the personal boxes, the collections from Foxley’s Christmas Services and the PCC’s donation plus Lyng’s Christingle Collection: a very pleasing total of £1398 from the Benefice, our second best total ever! The Society greatly appreciates the contributions from the parishes and box-holders; they make a significant impact on the results for the year. If anyone else would like to join our happy little band, our numbers are a little down for various reasons, please do contact me. As I have said many times, dropping one’s small change or a regular amount into a little box is very painless and it is for such a worthwhile cause. Our Society campaigns for and helps in practical, caring ways, so many children “at the margins” in the fractured home-life of so many these days. Those who run away from home to escape violence and abuse; whose parents are rendered incapable by drugs and alcohol; disabled youngsters, whose needs are not properly met by the State; young refugees. There is also a campaign afoot to address the widespread bullying in schools.
Another way to help is to donate your unwanted domestic or personal items (excluding electrical) for sale in our shops. You can leave them in our carport at Foxley Lodge or we can collect them if you give us a ring on 688650.
Thank you to all of you who have contributed recently. So many children and young people are victims (it’s the only word) in modern society. If they are not helped our future as a civilized nation looks very bleak!     Diana Harvey (Hon.Local Secretary)
