FOXLEY OPEN GARDEN

(next to Church)

Cyclamen and colchicums appeared as unexpected patches of colour under the trees on our fifth ‘Open Garden’ day on the 4th September.  The sunny weather was just right to invite visitors to sit and enjoy tea and home-made cakes.  Jams and jellies were also very popular.  The sound of the stationary engines in the background gave a real Country Fair flavour to the day.

Usually the beginning of October brings changing colours in trees and shrubs setting off the ripening fruits and berries.  The most spectacular sight should be the fiery colours of the pin oak (quercus palustris) so called because the hardness of the wood was used instead of iron nails in the construction of 16th century ships.

Weather permitting we hope to run the old farm stationary engines again on our last open day—Tuesday 2nd October.  There should also be a nice selection of winter pansies for sale.

FOXLEY VILLAGE HALL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Open Garden, Working Stationary Engines & Village Hall Activities

On behalf of the Committee, I would like to say a big thank-you to all those who contributed, helped or visited on 8th September.  Great teamwork, coupled with plenty of laughter and banter made for an enjoyable village day and the excellent sum of £450 was raised for improvements to the Village Hall.
