PLOUGHING MATCHES

 

 

Steve Framlingham competed in a ploughing match at Guestwick on September 9th.  This was the Gerald Jones Memorial Ploughing Match.  Gerald Jones died last March and arranged an annual ploughing match at Guestwick for many years.  The proceeds from the event will benefit Balloons 4 Hearts and Gressenhall Museum.  Many ploughmen took part in the ploughing, competing in 4 classes.  Steve ploughed in the Classic Class which he won.

 

On Sunday September 16th he will be travelling to Holkham to compete in the Fakenham Farm Machinery Club match and on September 23rd to Bodham to compete in the Holt and District Farmers’ Club match.  On October 7th he will compete at Great Melton in the Dereham Farm Machinery Club match.  The weekend of October 13th/14th Steve will compete at the British National Ploughing Championships which are being held at Crockey Hill near York.  He qualified to plough at Crockey Hill at the Norfolk and Cambridgeshire qualifier last October.  Organised by the Society of Ploughmen, this event expects 15,000 spectators over the 2 days.

 

The following weekend, on October 21s,t Norfolk Ploughing Society have their match at Dereham Road, Colton and Normac have their match on October 28th at Swanton Morley.


Steve and his wife, Dena, will soon be sending out invitations to all the ploughmen who competed in last January’s Bawdeswell Ploughing Society Ploughing Match which is being held on Sunday January 13th 2008 on land kindly supplied by Mr Gurney of Bawdeswell Farms.


Steve and his father David have been asked to judge at the Essex County Championships on September 29th organised by Ken McVitie who kindly judges here at Bawdeswell each year.
